Hydration & Immunity
Staying hydrated is essential to maintain a strong immune system, something that we all want, especially about the COVID-19 epidemic. Dr. Jyothi Tirumaslasetty, assistant professor of medicine at UCLA Health in the department of clinical immunology and allergy said, “Water is vital for the functioning of all your organs, and it’s a huge part of keeping your immune system functioning at an optimal level.” She continues, “We are made of [approximately 70%] water. If we are dehydrated, the whole system of immunity could start breaking down.”
The immune system includes something called T-cells that fight infection. They work with something called B-cells, which produce proteins called antibodies that travel through the blood. Blood is an incredible 92% water. “Those antibodies are going to recognize pathogens and start switching around,” she says. “When they meet a new
bacterium, they say, ‘Oh, I need to
change and learn to recognize this.’ The next time that enters your
body, that antibody is going to attack it with full force.”Dr. Tirumalasetty describes water as a ‘solvent’ that helps antibodies and other elements of the immune system work in harmony. “Water carries important components of the immune system, including nutrients, to where they need to go and carries away waste from organs that are the byproducts of our everyday metabolism as we consume food and turn it into energy,” she says. Each of those critical parts of immunity becomes impaired when you are dehydrated. If your cells, tissues, and organs not optimally nourished, fortified by natural immune factors and then ultimately flushed out, that accumulated waste has the potential to become toxic and weaken the immune system.
So stay hydrated! Stay detoxed and stay strong! Give your body the clean, healthy water it needs to function at an optimal level. Give your body UltraWater. Your immune system will thank you.
